How To Clean Paint Brushes
Master’s Brush Cleaner and Preserver
Master’s brush cleaner is a non-toxic brush cleaner for oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache based paints. It’s activated with warm water, has no harsh fumes, and in many cases is able to revive even long dead brushes. It’s sold at most arts and crafts stores including, Micheal’s, Blick and Hobby Lobby and a single container can last many years. Since 1978 it has become the most popular way to clean paint brushes for artists. Below are the basic instructions listed word for word on the back of the packaging.
Basic Cleaning
Rinse brush in warm water
Swirl in cleaner
Work into a lather
Rinse and repeat as necessary
To Condition and Preserve
Leave clear lather on brushes
Shape brushes and allow to dry
Shake powder off and dry for next use
To Revivify and Restore Dead Brushes
Clean as above.
Work lather onto brushes and let sit until brushes begin to soften
Repeat if necessary
